Pearl Maebel Yarma

The Solemary child. Those of you who have been around for a couple of years may recognise that name—it represents two of my earlier OCs, Sol and Mary. I don't engage with them that often anymore due to Time and Growth, but I find myself missing their company. So here is their child: Pearl.

Like her mothers, Pearl has an uncanny talent for befriending strange, often dangerous, people. And, like her mothers, Pearl was not blessed with particularly good parents as Mary suffered severe PPD and psychosis, leading the despairing couple to make Pearl a foster care child. She was probably the most bashful and quiet of the children there, quick to smile at people who noticed her; her rosy cheeks looked like they were bursting at the seams with a secret just for you. At eight years old, Pearl was placed on a prosperous farm under the care of a 67-year-old man, who fathered an adopted (assumedly so considering their ages) girl of six and a chubby baby boy.

Over the years, Pearl has tried to run away four times after witnessing how her little sister Lynn behaves with the animals, and how Granddad always makes a joke of it as if he doesn't believe her, or like he thinks it’s just "normal kid things". But Pearl could never get far—the farm is in the middle of nowhere with no internet, she doesn't even know the name of the dirt road they live on, and she holds every single animal on the farm in such high regard; abandoning them would wreck her soul.

The one man-thing she manages to make contact with is a humanoid creature with six nipples, twelve fingers, twelve toes and a tail, who calls himself Antics, omen of luck. She can't tell if he means good luck or bad luck, but his penchant for turning into an odorous ferret around her family members certainly has its upsides.

~ Pearl and Antics ~

If you've read Antics' character page, then you'll know why Pearl is so lucky to have spotted him. Antics, by nature, is not the most endearing or caring person, but he takes a liking to Pearl. Gives her nice clothes. Tells her nice things. Hangs out with her when she's all alone tending to the animals. Maybe it's for the most pure reasons: for example, he is lonely too. Or maybe he's stringing her along into something bad. You can never know what the reason is for two lonely people ("people" I say, when Antics is an omen) deciding to spend all their time together.

~ Rants About the Character ~

My favourite thing about drawing Pearl is incorporating both Sol and Mary's features. She has Sol's full lips, Sol's down-turned eye shape, Mary's soft and short body/face shape, Mary's bushy curly hair—it's amazing. That's all I have to say in this section. Thank you for listening.
